Surf Cup Hotel Procedure

To All Accepted Surf Cup Teams,

Please read and let Rob Haskell know if you have any questions.

  1. If your team does not require hotels because you are a local team (we consider local to be Orange and San Diego Counties) notify Rob by email (rob@surfcup.com) and include your team name and age.
  2. Our lists of approved hotels are the only properties which may be used for all team players, parents, and coaches.  There are no exceptions.  I understand there are always parents that want to do their “own thing,” and if that’s the case it is your responsibility to tell them they are risking their teams’ place in our tournament.  If I can be of any help in this area please let me know.

Frequent questions I receive

  1. Yes, you may use multiple hotels if they are all accounted for as directed below.
  2. Yes, you might have to use rooms with Kings and Sofabeds.  There are a limited amount of double rooms available and if you don’t make your reservations early the doubles will be gone.
  3. No, we never run out of rooms.  We use over 70 hotels and I can assure you we always have availability.
  4. Yes, depending on when you make reservations you might have to stay in your 3rd, 4th or 5th choice hotel.
  5. Yes, you may stay with friends and family in the area.
  6. No, RV’s are not allowed to stay overnight in the Parking Lot.

Surf Cup Hotel Policy and Procedure

As stated in the application process you must use Surf Cup approved hotels for any team associated reservations. To view the list and complete the process please:

1.                  Sign in to your Got Soccer homepage and click on the link to Surf Cup.

2.                  Click on the hotel tab at the top of the page and the list of hotels will appear.  North County Coastal and North County Inland are the closest locations to the fields.

3.                  Scan through the list and click on any hotel that interests you for more information on the property.

4.                  When you have made your selection you must phone the designated hotel contact directly to make your reservations.  FYI – It is best to set up one “team reservation” with the hotel contact and then have each parent call in to make their individual reservation under your team name.  IF YOU SPEAK TO SOMEBODY ELSE THEY MAY NOT MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS CORRECTLY.

5.                  Notify the Hotel contact you are a Surf Cup team to be able to receive the Surf Cup discounted rate.

6.                  All players, parents, coaches and team personnel must me included under your team reservation.  Please communicate this information to your team parents.  THIS MEANS EVERYONE WHO IS TRAVELING TO OUR TOURNAMENT AND IS ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR TEAM.

7.                  Hotel points or rewards can’t be used in conjunction with our reservation procedure.

8.                  After the reservation has been made you are required to complete the application process by filling in the information on your hotel description page (located under the hotel contact info) and clicking the “add” button to submit.  It is not necessary to enter each reservation individually. One confirmation with all team reservation information will suffice.  Confirmation numbers are welcome, but not necessary.

9.         Online reservations through travel websites such as Travelocity and Expedia are not allowed and could lead to your team being disqualified from participation.

10.       Team managers, coaches, and travel coordinators are responsible for the above process being followed by all parents and team associates.    THIS IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM.  PASS THIS INFORMATION ON TO WHOEVER IS HANDLING YOUR TEAMS TRAVEL.

If you have any questions re: hotel recommendations or travel information, please contact Rob Haskell at 760.944.7888, or email rob@surfcup.com.

Please take the time to check-out our travel page supplement located on www.surfcup.com.   Just click on the travel icon to view descriptions of 24 of our most popular, premium, and team friendly hotels.  The webpage also includes links to any travel, restaurant and destination information you may need to assist you with your Surf Cup experience. Use this new page as a supplement to the Got Soccer hotel list mentioned above.  Valuable information will continue to be uploaded to the page throughout the coming weeks.

Like I said, let me know if you have any questions.  I am always here to help in any way I can, day or night.

Thanks,

Rob Haskell

The Girls Love Their New Jackets! Melina Lopez – Bringing Soccer to Girls in Tanzania [Video Interview]

SurfCup.com recently chatted with Melina “Mimi” Lopez, former Surf Soccer Player and current Stanford University student about her trip to Tanzania in the summer of 2011. Mimi spent her time in the small village of Manyara where she started a girls soccer program to try and encourage good health through sport. What she discovered was how teaching girls soccer can be an empowering effort that resonates beyond the pitch. Surf Cup is proud to have assisted Mimi in her efforts there with a donation of soccer wear and soccer balls.
