San Diego Surf Soccer Club has earned a spot as the best of the best in youth soccer clubs in the nation largely because of the club’s notable alumni. Check out some famous faces that have played for the club below.

Rachel Buehler

Surf Soccer Alumn: Rachel Buehler

Buehler played Club soccer at San Diego Surf Soccer in 2003 and went on to play at Stanford University. Buehler was selected to US WNT U23 in 2007-08 and played for the 2008 US Olympic Women’s Soccer Team.

Greg Dalby

Surf Soccer Alumn: Greg Dalby

An alumnus of Poway High School, Dalby was the Gatorade and Parade Magazine National Player of the Year in 2002 and the California Player of the Year twice. Dalby, who played for the Adidas All-American and Parade Magazine All-American team three times, played for San Diego Surf Soccer Club in 2003. He was coached by Bobby Clark at Notre Dame, where he took home trophies for NSCAA First Team All-American (2005, 2006), Big East Midfielder of the Year (2006), First Team All-Big East (2005, 2006) and was the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Semi-Finalist (2005, 2006).

Dalby was a member and co-captain of the US U18 National Team, captained the US U20 team at the World Youth Championships in 2005 and was a member of the US U23 National Team. In 2007, he was selected by Colorado Rapids as the #17 pick and played on the US National Mens U23 Team 2007-08. He committed to SC Charleroi in Belgium and left to join the Colorado Rapids in 2008. He now plays for the Charlotte Eagles in the USL Second Division.

Carrie Dew

Surf Soccer Alumn: Carrie Dew

Carrie Dew, who played Club soccer at San Diego Surf Soccer in 2005, graduated from La Costa Canyon High School and went on to play at Notre Dame. Dew was selected to US WNT U23 Team in 2007-08. The Encinitas, California native now plays for the Sky Blue FC, following a WPS Championship season with the FC Gold Pride.

Ryan Guy

Surf Soccer Alumn: Ryan Guy

San Diego Surf Soccer Club alumnus Ryan Guy was named MVP twice during his high school career at Carlsbad, California’s La Costa Canyon High School. Guy went on to attend the University of SanDiego, where he was coached by Seamus McFadden. He earned All WCC First Team (2004, 2006), Far West All Region Selection (2005) and NSCAA All Far West Second Team (2004). Guy was selected by FC Dallas as #22 pick but decided to join St. Patrick’s Athletic of Ireland in Dublin instead.

Ashli Sandoval

Surf Alumn: Ashli Sandoval

Currently playing for USC, Ashli Sandoval was the 2005 CIF Division Player of the Year

and a four-time all-CIF first team selection at Granite Hills High. She played Club soccer for San Diego Surf Soccer and won the Surf Cup title in 2005. As a freshman at USC, Sandoval led in assists and earned national honors as Soccer America Second Team All-Freshman and SoccerBuzz Second Team Freshman All-America. Although she suffered a season-ending injury in 2009, USC’s No. 4 all-time assists leader is back on the field this season.

Angie Woznuk

Surf Soccer Alumn: Angie Woznuk

Currently playing for the Atlanta Beat WPS, 2003 San Diego Surf Soccer Club alumna Woznuk attended San Diego’s UNI before playing at the University of Portland.

Marvell Wynne

Surf Soccer Alumn: Marvell Wynne

An alumnus of San Diego Surf Soccer Club and Poway High School, Marvell Wynne played

D1 soccer at UCLA. He was the first pick at the 2006 MLS SuperDraft with the MetroStars (rebranded as Red Bull New York) and was traded to Toronto FC in 2007. Wynne, who was a started on the U.S. Men’s 2008 Olympic soccer team, now plays for the Colorado Rapids. He scored his first career MLS goalagainst the Houston Dynamo on September 27, 2008.
